What is Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (Scheme)?
This scheme was launched by the ministry of petroleum and natural gas.
It is the scheme for women’s empowerment and a big milestone in the lives of women living below the poverty line. It was launched by the Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi on 1st May 2016. The main purpose to launch the scheme is to reduce the dependency of rural households on polluting and low-cost fuel sources like wood, coal, and cow during cakes and crop waste.
Main features of the scheme
- This scheme was for the families living below povery line (BPL). In 2016, approximately 50 million LPG connections were distributed to the families of the women living below povery line.
- Approximately Rs. 50 billion budget was allocated for this scheme.
- It is a large social movement towards women’s empowerment.
- To reduce indoor air pollution in rural area.
- To reduce overall pollution and improve quality of life and living conditions.

- Should be an Indian citizen.

- Should be a woman from BPL family who doesn’t have LPG connection.
